Connect Locally, Develop Nationally, Transform Globally

The Satellite Applications Catapult‘s vision is to support industry and the science base across the UK to accelerate the growth of satellite applications to contribute to capturing a 10% share of the £400bn global space market predicted by 2030.

Our Regional Centres of Excellence, supported by the UK Space Agency, support work with local communities to achieve this aim. They create focal points of our activity linking the science base with large industry and SMEs around the UK, to enable the development of applications and solutions, as well as to engage the wider end user market.

Our Regional Centres

Accelerating the development of satellite applications and
solutions in the UK

The Centres of Excellence act as representatives and ambassadors for the Catapult in their local region, coordinating activities and investment, and extending our reach.

Our Regional Centres help us to:

  • Identify key areas of current or potential satellite applications research strength
  • Ensure the key areas are linked to local industry and user markets to foster new collaborations
  • Help the Catapult identify and bridge gaps in capability that need to be strengthened to enable growth in the market sector

Visit each Centres landing page for more information on the teams, and their focus areas.

Knowledge Exchange Fellows

To develop a deeper understanding of the space sector research base in the UK

The Satellite Applications Catapult has established the Knowledge Exchange (KE) programme to help us develop a deeper understanding of the scientific research base in the UK that is relevant to the Space sector. To further develop our engagement with universities, we have established a network of joint-funded positions known as Knowledge Exchange Fellowships.

Knowledge Exchange Fellows operate at a strategic level with their university. They work to identify intersections of existing or intended research strengths and un-met commercial need, and to promote and drive the development of agreed inter-disciplinary research and exploitation themes which will appeal to businesses and lead to commercialisation.
